The Origins of Oban Distillery

The Oban Distillery, founded in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson, is among Scotland's oldest whisky producers. Interestingly, the distillery was set up even before the town of Oban came into existence. This fact places the distillery at the heart of Oban's history, highlighting its role not just in making whisky but also in shaping the town's growth and character.

Despite being one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland, the Oban whisky distillery has kept its original size and location. Its whisky production has been carried out with just two copper stills for over two centuries, upholding the traditional methods handed down through generations.

The entire operation is managed by just 7 skilled workers, many of whom reside in apartments above the distillery's offices. This dedication to tradition imbues Oban malt whisky with a unique character and depth, a testament to centuries of meticulous craftsmanship and the care of those who create it.

The Star of the Show: Oban’s Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Oban whisky is known for hints of seasalt, a taste that reflects its coastal home. In fact, the water used to make every drop of Oban whisky is from a loch just three miles away.

The distillery is well-known for its single malt whisky, with popular types including Oban 21, Oban Little Bay, and especially the Oban 14 Years Old. Many people love the Oban 14 Years Old because of its sweet and smoky taste that's easy for connoisseurs and amateurs alike to enjoy.
